Edit Videos With Remotion and Codex
A practical workflow for turning real footage and screen recordings into a coded Remotion edit with Codex, FFmpeg, and Whisper.
Code the edit and keep control of the story
This workflow uses Remotion for the composition, Codex to write and revise the code, FFmpeg to inspect and prepare media, and Whisper to generate word-level timing.
What this workflow does
It turns one continuous talking-head recording plus real screen recordings, logos, images, and creative direction into a repeatable coded video edit.
What you need
Real footage, screen recordings, logos, images, a clearly organized local project, and specific creative direction for what should appear, where it should appear, and when.
Complete editing workflow
- Record one continuous talking-head video.
- Gather the screen recordings, logos, images, and other real assets you want to use.
- Put the assets in clearly named local folders.
- Use FFmpeg to inspect the media and prepare compatible footage.
- Use Whisper to generate word-level timestamps.
- Build the video composition in Remotion.
- Use Codex to write and revise the Remotion code.
- Render representative frames before rendering the full video.
- Review the preview for timing, composition, captions, and asset placement.
- Render the final export and verify the completed file.
What Codex can create
• Layouts • Captions • Animations • Transitions • Camera pans • Zooms • Reusable Remotion components
What you still provide
• Real footage • Screen recordings • Logos • Images • Creative direction • Specific placement and timing instructions
What the result should look like
Representative frames should pass review before the full render. The finished export should then be checked for dimensions, duration, frame rate, audio, final-frame alignment, and black frames.
